ABOUT

Fork and Pie Bakery

We’re not just another one of those restaurants that says they’re farm-to-table restaurants. We’re the real deal.

So many of the ingredients we use come from baker-owner Stevie Rufener’s home garden and her parents’ farm in southeast Ohio. Talk about fresh: Eggs, apples, tomatoes, corn, potatoes, herbs and much more are gathered and harvested by the family and brought straight to the bakery. Items we can’t source locally — like the sustainably grown, fresh-milled sorghum flour that gives great flavor and texture to our surprisingly gluten-free pie crust — come from small producers we’ve built relationships with.

We’re a from-scratch kitchen that uses all natural ingredients, whole grains, healthier oils and less sugar (we promise: you won’t miss it!) to create great-tasting comfort food that reminds you of what your grandmother made. At Fork and Pie, you can enjoy something delicious with no regrets.

We’re currently a licensed home bakery with plans to open a brick-and-mortar store in Newtown on Cincinnati’s near-east side. Our menu centers around pies, both sweet and savory, available with our signature gluten-free crust, whole or by the slice. Baked goods include sweet and savory scones, breakfast breads, yeasted breads, cookies and bars, and more. Flavors rotate with the seasons — you won’t find strawberry crumb bars on the menu in wintertime.

We understand that food isn’t just about sustenance: it’s about the togetherness of family and community. Whether you find us at a farmers’ market, invite us to cater an event or visit our bakery, you’ll be treated and fed as a welcome guest.

Very nice stuff here

Stevie Rufener

I grew up spending summers on my grandparents’ farms. I got my start as a professional baker in Hawaii. And I combine both of those passions—farming and food—in everything I create for Fork and Pie Bakery.

My grandmothers influenced my love of cooking and baking in very different ways: My paternal grandmother was a recipe cook; my maternal grandmother an instinctive, throw-whatever-in-the-pot kind of cook.

At Fork and Pie, I borrow from both of these culinary traditions — working with fresh, seasonal ingredients in creative ways, and also adapting old family recipes with my own twists.

I grew up in northwest Ohio, then moved as a young adult to Hawaii, where I landed a job at a popular bakery that served locals, tourists and resorts. When my husband and I returned to Ohio and started our family, I jumped at the chance to establish my own vegetable garden and backyard orchard. As a Master Gardener, I’m not just keen on digging in the dirt myself; I want our kids to understand where food comes from.

I started Fork and Pie in my home kitchen in 2015, selling at local farmers’ markets, catering small events and serving a growing group of dedicated customers. Most of my seasonal ingredients come from our gardens, orchards and my family’s farm in southeast Ohio. I believe food can be nourishing and satisfying — and still be good for us — and I’m excited to share my baked goods with the community.
